Kit Klarenberg's article reviews some of the information known about Menwith Hill in the light of a new planning application to build a large windowless container in a secure compound within the base. In the absence of firm information we can only speculate what the new compound is for.

On 18 March 2019 an American F-15E dropped a 500 pound bomb on the Syrian town of Baghuz. This was followed shortly afterwards by another bomb, this time a 2,000 pound bomb. At least 80 people died, the majority were civilians.

Supporters of the Menwith Hill Accountability Campaign and Yorkshire Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND) gathered at the main gates of Menwith Hill on 30th April 2021 to mark the International Day of Action Against Foreign Military Bases.

Bob Cryer MP campaigned for transparency at Menwith Hill. A memorial tree was planted in his memory.

Former Labour MP Ann Cryer has said she is “very upset” at plans to remove a memorial tree dedicated to her late husband at an entrance of RAF Menwith Hill in Nidderdale.

Bob Cryer, who was the Labour MP for Bradford South, died in a car accident in 1994.

The Prince of Wales has spent the day visiting RAF Menwith Hill in North Yorkshire.
